Welcome to the NC State Anthropology Program

The Anthropology Program at NC State University operates under four guiding principles: (1) theory, method and application are interconnected, (2) a cross-cultural, comparative approach is essential to understand humans and their behavior past and present, (3) an uncompromising commitment to excellence in teaching is required of its faculty, and (4) opportunities for hands-on, real-world experiences are critical for successful graduates of the program.

The MA in anthropology at NC State provides students with opportunities to work closely with faculty who specialize in three main areas: Bioarchaeology, Cultural Anthropology, and Environmental Anthropology. There are opportunities for bioarchaeological, ethnographic, and archaeological field schools, as well internships. Currently, our faculty have ongoing research projects in Southeast Asia, Central America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, and work closely with the State Office of Archaeology in Raleigh.
